The Birth Story: Eight days past
Avenly's due date, it was time to induce! Lori stayed in the labor
room from 9:30am on Sept. 2 to 4:00pm on Sept 3. She was given oral meds
all day Tue. in hopes of jumpstarting labor. When that didn't work, a Pitocin
I.V. was started at 6:30am on Wed. After 7 hours, she was only 2 cm.
dilated. Lori's water broke around 2:30pm and it was full of
meconium. This is never good, but since Avenly's heart rate was
normal, it was decided that we should try for a natural birth, opting
for a C-section only if labor took too long. Thankfully, but very
painfully, labor came fast and furious after that. Lori went
from almost 3 cm. to 10 cm in a little over 2
1/2 hours (and received a "walking epidural" around 7 cm). She pushed for about 15 minutes and Avenly
was born -- healthy and meconium-free -- at 5:46pm. |
